Here comes the food part!

P9090105

When the day is cold (seldom) or when one is feeling down, the golden fries from McDonald’s will surely save the day! And how can you not get the McNuggets too?

P9090112P9090133

Thank you very much McDonald’s for giving me this opportunity to look beyond the counter and witnessed what was going on in the kitchen. I have always been a loyal customer and the visit shown me more about what goes into my favourite food.

Now I am assured that McDonald’s get their ingredients from reputable sources and hygiene is very important to them.

I am lovin’ it!

Welcome to McDonald’s!

meatmac

May I have your order please?

So I went for a session of the Open Doors 2011 before it officially starts on 18 Sept 2011 and had the opportunities to go beyond the counter and into the kitchen!

P9090007

We have the nice people from McDonald’s to share with us some info and to show us around later.

P9090022

There’s Ting, our Open Doors Ambassador! This is where the containers for the food and some condiments are stored at. It is really important to keep them tidy so that you know where to get what in the shortest period of time! This is FAST FOOD after all, remember?

P9090031

With so much food in the house, we will need a HUGE refrigerator!!!

P9090035P9090032P9090037

P9090038P9090039P9090040

There is even a staff corner for staff to have their meals and rest during their break time. That is so considerate!!!

Alrighty, the next post I will touch on the more important stuff, which is the FOOD!!!!!!!!!

McDonald’s Open Doors is back!

P9090116

This is going to be the third year that McDonald’s is going to open its doors to all. It is a free guided kitchen tour at selected McDonald’s restaurants where participants will learn about McDonald’s food from “farm to fork”.

Where are the raw ingredients from?

How is the food prepared?

How do the McDonald’s fries stay crispy on the outside and fluffy inside?

What are the safety and quality checks?

These are some of the questions that will be answered  during the tour. If you want to join the tour, you really have to act fast.

The slots were snapped up last year. You read right, I said "snapped up”! Happening on the 3rd Sunday of the month from 18 Sept 2011 to 19 Feb 2012, you should go to www.mcdonalds.com.sg/opendoors to register NOW!

I want to be a Tu Tu Kueh seller one day…

TTK

I was at Boon Keng yesterday to visit my grandmother and as I wondered what food should I bring her, I came across this stall selling Tu Tu Kueh (TTK). TTK is a local snack made of rice flour and different kinds of fillings to choose from – coconut or grounded peanut!

What struck me was the uncle made sure that each and every TTK was pressed to shape and he stuffed a lot of fillings into them. In today’s context, where the price for everything has gone up, it was a relieve to see that his TTK are selling at 3 for $1.

Maybe one day, I will be a TTK seller too.

SPARKS @ The MERANTI Project

Meranti

All student teachers have to go through this self-discovery course which is known as the Meranti Project. Meranti is the name of a tree that is native to Singapore.

Spread over two days, the project covered issues such as National Education, self discovery and it kind of bonded the team together. It was a dread to go to school on the early morning of Saturday and Sunday. But it turned out to be pretty meaningful.

The Great via Ferrata Wall Challenge!

2011-08-20 18.47.56

So I signed up for the challenge again this year and almost chickened out. I mean, I attended a course in the morning from 8.30am to 5.30pm and I had to travel from Tampines at 6.30am. I was really really really tired.

So somehow I managed to push myself and went ahead. I drew Lot 5 which was a killer!!!! Even before the start of the challenge, I had to rock-climb up the wall and it was only then that I realised that I had not done anything like this for a long time. A little shaky initially but things got easier eventually.

There was one guy who hung on the wall for 100 minutes!!!! Yes, that is more than an hour, 1 hour 40 minutes to be exact. He got Lot 6 and the emcee said it was one of the ‘good lot’.

Not easy.

Last year’s champion came back and only managed to stay there for 70 minutes. Me? I did 15 minutes.

Next year again? Maybe… because the goodies bag is really good!

We are S.P.A.R.K.S!

RunwayNIE

Hurray!!! We are done with Runway NIE!!! As part of NIE’s National Day Celebration, NIE’s freshies have to come up with a costume and have a model to showcase it on 8th August 2011.

So basically, I was the model for my team, S.P.A.R.K.S!!

P8070032

In short, I had images of the Capitol Building and National Stadium on my legs, a kite on my waist, F1 cars on my hands, Majulah! The Singapore Spirit shirt and tattoo, 2 durian shells aka Esplanade as my shoulder pads and Marina Bay Sands on my back.

Not the funnest thing to do in the world but hey, people in S.P.A.R.K.S got to know each other better and we are on my way to accomplish the actual GESL Project.

Wish us luck! ^^v
