i-Love to RUN!

20121215_170928_1

Woo hoo… Presenting… Team ORSUM!!!!!

We participated in a race, i-Love to RUN, that was hugely inspired by the popular Korean variety show, Running Man! It was put together by i-Weekly and everyone had a lot of fun running, playing and hiding!!

We had to complete many tasks and then eventually solve the final code to win the race. While searching for clues to the final code, we had to hide from the ‘hunters’ who were roaming the whole shopping mall. Not easy at all.

My favourite task would have to be the ‘The Longest Breathe’!

563859_433373446717268_124471859_n528265_433373386717274_415118569_n

I had to shout ‘i ~~~~~~~’ and hold it there while the rest ran one round picking up i-Weekly magazines. Amazingly, I managed to last until they completed the round and we completed the task with one attempt!

Even though we didn’t win, we had a lot of fun and we got to mingle with athletes from Team Singapore! I am already looking forward to next year’s edition of i-Love to RUN!!!

I WAS THERE

Source: Samsung Mobile Singapore Facebook Page

I was lucky enough to be selected for the inaugural edition of the ‘I WAS THERE’ by Samsung Mobile Singapore. I spent an evening at the BistroBar by Da Paolo, enjoyed the food and played with the latest offering by Samsung Mobile Singapore, ie the Samsung Galaxy Camera!

2012-12-12 08.58.54

The Samsung Galaxy Camera has a 4.8” touch screen and it operates on the Android Jellybean 4.1.1. Yes, you hear right, it operates on the latest version of the Android OS. It is even possible to connect via 3G or Wifi and then upload the photos straight away to Instagram, Facebook and Twitter!

And the camera comes with many special modes and my favourite one got to be the ‘BEST FACE’. When this mode is selected, the camera takes 5 photos and then you can select the best picture of each person and then merge them into one photo. That simply means that, we don’t have to worry about unglam photos where people closed their eyes at that click of the camera.

2012-12-12 09.02.152012-12-12 09.01.08

I am actually thinking of getting this camera for my trip to Japan, Cambodia and Thailand. The special modes seem to satisfy my requirements and take the kind of photos that I like. Oh and the 21x optical zoom is pretty amazing and I can take clear photos from a distance away. Cool, huh.

The slots were snapped up within 48 hours last year.

This year, the website was down on the first day of registration for the public.

Many people were frustrated with the organiser.

It costs $45 to run 10km.

Yet, so many people still want to join this race.

We came, we cheered, we had fun!

Well, this is a video that I took at the Opening Ceremony for the Singapore National Games yesterday. This is what Singapore is all about – people regardless of race, language or religion come together and have fun together.

The senior citizens really left a deep impression in me. They participated actively and were full of energy. I suppose this is one way to keep yourself happy and healthy.

I do hope to see more young Singaporeans participating in such events and joining in the fun!

Distance fares for public transport

PublicTransport@SG- Fares & Ticketing

It is important to understand how this works, especially for people like me who relies on the public transport. One penny saved is one penny earned!

So the key points here are: “up to 5 transfers”, “2 hours to complete” and “train network only once”!

SAFRA Singapore Bay Run & Army Half Marathon Race Pack Collection

DSCN5280

On the same day, I also collected my race pack for the SAFRA Singapore Bay Run & Army Half Marathon. Maybe it was still morning and the fact that it was the last day of collection, the whole process was very smooth. It could also be due to the fact that there were many volunteers around. Thank you to all these volunteers for making the collection a pleasant one.

There are more goodies in this goodies bag!! I think for NSmen/NSF, we got an additional 2XU singlet too! Hurray!!!

Yellow Ribbon Prison Run ‘12 Race Pack Collection

I collected my race pack in the morning and maybe that was why there wasn’t many people. The whole collection only took like 2 minutes and I was out of there.

Here are the goodies inside the goodies bag! I love the inflatable water bottle the most and I am going to use it tomorrow!

SNG Opening

The Singapore National Games Opening was held at the Punggol Waterway Park today. Participants and supporters from the various clusters gathered here as we waited for Prime Minister Lee to officiate the opening.

We didn’t get to play the Frisbee but we all had a great time, enjoying ourselves with the balloons, bubbles and cheers. Some how I think the closing will be quite fun too, maybe we will attend the closing too.

Waves of Hope

I was at the Tampines Swimming Complex this morning for the Waves of Hope – an event by children, for children. It was put together by the Tampines Changkat YEC and the NUS Rotaract Club and organisations such as the Children’s Cancer Foundation and Children’s Society will benefit from the fund raised.

I think it was a very meaningful event and the children enjoyed it a lot. You can still chip in (even though the event is over now) by donating or buying a swim-let from the club. More info here: http://www.rotaractnus.org/wavesofhope.html

HAPPY 47th NATIONAL DAY!

424194_10151979271880142_1701996807_n

WOoooooooo HoooOOOoooo!!! It is Singapore’s birthday!!!!!!

On this day, 9th August, 47 years ago, Singapore declared independence. No longer do we have someone to take care of us but we, the citizens of Singapore, are now in charge.

A small island with no natural resources and lots of issues to solve, many things seemed impossible. Our forefathers worked hard and took risks, everyone was motivated to contribute to the country.

From a fishing village to become a cosmopolitan city today, Singapore has achieved a lot. And I do hope to see Singapore become even better and greater for many years to come.

I can’t wait to attend the National Day Parade at the Floating Platform in a few hours time. ^^

Happy Birthday DORAEMON!

capture-20120801-095841-crop

This is a pre-celebration for DORAEMON and the good people from Harbour City (Hong Kong) are going to do this 100 years earlier!

241

Partnering the Animation International Ltd, 100 unique Doraemon figures along with 100 different pieces from his well-known repertoire of secret gadgets will be displayed outside Harbour City’s Ocean Terminal, creating one of the most visually rewarding exhibitions ever seen in the city.

244

I love Doraemon.

Whenever I faced challenges, I would always think of Doraemon and how fortunate Nobita is to have him around. I would imagine myself having some of the secret gadgets and using them to overcome my problems. I would love to have the helicopter wings and fly to wherever I want to go to.

551208_10151307934943146_1839884630_n

I think everyone should visit this exhibition to see their imagination come true. The exhibition includes scenes from the animation/manga such as “The Night Before Nobita’s wedding!”, “Goodbye, Doraemon!” and “Memories of Grandma.”

And Harbour City is located right at Tsim Sha Tsui, the centre of all exciting happenings. One can find the best food, best place to chill and of course Doraemon’s exhibition here!

Those were the days…

599643_10150974839674226_1723745879_n

Those were the days we ran after 12am. Maybe it was 1am or maybe it was 2am. And after the run, we cooked up a supper and then go to sleep.

It was great running around NTU in the early morning – cooler weather and lesser vehicles on the road. And we were not the only group of people running in campus, there were so many others as well.

If you ask me to run at 12am, 1am or 2am now, I will think you are crazy or something. Maybe I will consider waking up early at 5am to run to school.

Maybe.

I scream for ICE CREAM!

Do you have an ice cream recipe that is uniquely yours?

How about sharing that recipe and join this competition?

Who knows you might be walking with the $500 worth of prizes!

MIZUNO PAssion Mount Faber Run

Passion Run 005

Passion Run 002 Passion Run 001 Passion Run 004

I boarded the first bus and first train of the day to get to Bukit Merah View for the Mizuno PAssion Mount Faber Run 2012! Just a simple 10km run but I think it was amazing to run round Mount Faber with so many other runners.

I think I clocked under 50 minutes for the run, maybe 48? I enjoyed the run because the air was fresh and everybody’s spirit was high. I kind of like a small scale run like this where everybody looked out for one another and cheered them on.

Maybe we can do a run like this in Tampines. More runs to look forward to!!! YEAH!!!!

Get ACTIVE, Stay Healthy!

Yellow Ribbon Prison Run 2012

10km is not considered a long distance for most of the runners in Singapore. This is a chance to show your support for the ex-offenders, let them know that there are people who care for them.

They will need your encouragement to restart their lives. So, won’t you want to cheer them on too? Sign up now!

I am an Earthkeeper!

I am encouraged by the effort put in by many to play their parts to protect our earth. Thanks to the promotion and publicity by government agencies and Timberland.

We can and we should do something for our earth. Do at least something, it doesn’t have to be huge. It can be something like what I have done.

IMG_20120602_204721

Grow some plants. These are the potted plants I have outside my house. They are pleasant to look at and they freshen up the air. Just be careful not to breed mosquitoes.

IMG_20120602_205022

We put our unwanted papers into a separate bag. And the old newspaper are kept together so that we can dispose them at the same time.

IMG_20120602_205312

We also throw our plastic bottles into another bag. It will take a lot more effort and time to separate them again. We know plastic takes forever to rot away, so it is good to put them apart.

It is easy to play your part! I want to do it because I want my children, my grand children to see a clean and green earth. I want them to enjoy the sun, sand and sea like I am doing now.

Let’s all become Earthkeepers!

X Physique 2012, what a race!

xPhysique

Our reporting time was 6am. Yes, 6am!!!!! To report at this timing means that we had no choice but to take a cab and it cost $31!!! I wouldn’t mind starting later so that we can take our time to get to ARC.

Anyway, flag off was at 6.55am and we were off to solve clues and to complete the tasks at the various checkpoints. For the race, we ran, walked, cycled and kayaked the south western part of Singapore. From the Alexandra Retail Centre (ARC), we ventured to places like Bukit Purmei Hillock Park, Gan Eng Seng Secondary School, Normanton East, NTU Alumni Club @ One North, Ulu Pandan CC, Pandan Reservoir, somewhere at West Coast Road, Clementi Woods Park, NACLI and then back to ARC.

Over all, the race was pretty fun. There was no bottleneck and the tasks were quite challenging. We are Team Like a Boss and we finished off the race just like a boss!

DSCN3576And a big congratulations to Team NTU ODAC for coming in first (Mixed Closed)!!! You guys rock!
